Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect

From Your Police Department:

Unfortunately, I need to advise you once again that we have seen an increase of residents reporting scam phone calls. The people making the calls can be very convincing. They use personal information to try and trick you into sending funds or revealing financial information. Reports have ranged from grandchildren being arrested and needing bond money to residents having arrest warrants issued against them if they do not pay their IRS fines. DO NOT send any money to these people and contact the police department should you receive any of these phone calls.

Last month, for the third consecutive year, your Police and Fire Departments partnered with Gilmour Academy to provide Safety Town classes for two energetic groups of four and five year olds. The week long curriculum incorporated hands-on activities addressing traffic safety, stranger safety and fire safety. The program was a great success due to the efforts of Officers Suchetka and Strasshofer, Fire Chief Robinson, the Gates Mills Service Department and the staff at Gilmour Academy.

With the Fourth of July quickly approaching, here’s what you need to know about fireworks. The general public may purchase consumer fireworks from a licensed wholesaler or manufacturer, but those fireworks cannot be discharged anywhere in the State of Ohio. Ohio’s fireworks laws are written to protect people and promote safety. Failing to comply with these laws can result in devastating fires and catastrophic personal injuries. Enjoy your Fourth of July celebration, but leave the fireworks displays to the licensed professionals.

Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Fourth of July Parade and at the Band Concert!

Until next month – Proud to serve…Sworn to Protect
