Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect

From Your Police Department:

On Saturday, June 9th, the police department hosted our inaugural “Bike Rodeo” for kids in the parking lot at Gates Mills Elementary School.  The rodeo was a huge success as we had about 15 kids who participated.  Ptl. Eric Kimball led the event which featured safety instruction, a bicycle inspection, and an agility course.  We even blocked a portion of Chagrin River Road so the kids had an opportunity to experience riding on the roadway with Ptl. Kimball.  I would like to thank resident, Sean Burkey, Account Executive for Giant Bicycles who donated bicycle water bottles and other items at the event and to Mary Gromelski, owner of Sara’s Place, who stopped by with pizza for the kids!

Unfortunately, I need to advise you once again that we have seen an increase of residents reporting scam phone calls.  The people making the calls can be very convincing. They use personal information to try and trick you into sending funds or revealing financial information. Reports have ranged from grandchildren being arrested and needing bond money to residents having arrest warrants issued against them if they do not pay their IRS fines.  DO NOT send any money to these people and contact the police department should you receive any of these phone calls.

With the Fourth of July quickly approaching, here’s what you need to know about fireworks.  The general public may purchase consumer fireworks from a licensed wholesaler or manufacturer, but those fireworks cannot be discharged anywhere in the State of Ohio. Ohio’s fireworks laws are written to protect people and promote safety.  Failing to comply with these laws can result in devastating fires and catastrophic personal injuries. Enjoy your Fourth of July celebration, but leave the fireworks displays to the licensed professionals.

Have a great summer!

Until next month – Proud to serve…Sworn to Protect
