Gates Mills is home to many unique and desirable rental properties.  Although rental property owners and tenants are not required to register with the Village, occupancy contact information can be very helpful for police and fire personnel during emergency situations. To that end, rental property owners and tenants are encouraged to provide their emergency contact information by going to the Village website, www.gatesmillsvillage.com, where they can complete a secure/encrypted Rental Property Information form.   For those who prefer a more traditional method of submitting information, you can call (440) 423-4405 (Sunday through Saturday, 8 am to 4 pm) and provide the Police & Town Hall Coordinator with your emergency contact information.

The annual Records Shredding Day is scheduled for May 17th from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Please take time to sort through your unneeded documents and bring them to the Community House on May 17th.  Unshredded documents discarded in your trash have the potential of falling into criminal hands, and could result in the unpleasant scenario of identity theft. Identity theft is a serious crime that can wreak havoc with your finances, credit history and reputation.

May 25th is designated as National Missing Children’s Day.  In America over 800,000 children go missing every year. During the month of May, your Police Department will be distributing free Child Identification Kits. These kits provide a vital means for locating missing, kidnapped or runaway children. Please take advantage of this quick and easy opportunity to protect your children.  Kits are available for pickup at the Town Hall, or give us a call at (440) 423-4405 and an officer will deliver the kits to your home. Additional resources regarding child safety, child sexual exploitation and internet safety can be found on the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s website, www.missingkids.com.

In closing, Gates Mills Community Awareness Day is scheduled for May 31st from 10 am until 3 pm. This open house event will take place at the Town Hall and Community House properties.   I hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to familiarize yourself with the Village’s safety forces and community organizations.

Until next month – Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect

Yours in Service,

Ronald L. Whitmer
