Gates Mills Police Department

Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect

From Your Police Department:

On behalf of the men and women of the Police Department, I would like to thank all those who contributed to the Village Employee Christmas Fund. I would also like to thank everyone who kept the Town Hall supplied with delicious holiday food items. Your thoughtful expressions of support for the Police Department are greatly appreciated. Below are some highlights from 2017:

This past year we handled 7,065 calls for service, 53 % of the calls for service on day shift and 47 % of the calls on night shift. We had 145 investigatory police reports filed and 109 motor vehicle accidents. Unfortunately, we did have three burglaries and one traffic fatality. In addition, we conducted nearly 50,000 security checks of homes, businesses and schools.

In March, we held a Safety Awareness Seminar to provide residential and personal best practices to help keep you, your family, and your property safe.

In June, we had another successful partnership with the Fire Department and Gilmour Academy to hold our 4th Safety Town program for preschoolers.

In August, we started our Traffic Violations Bureau which now allows some traffic offenders to pay their fines directly to the police department. After some initial hiccups, I am pleased to announce that the violations bureau is working well.

In September, we applied for and received a R/X drug drop box where residents can safely dispose of their unwanted medication. The box is located outside the north side door of the Town hall and is available 24 hours a day.

In November, we were once again awarded the American Automobile Association’s Traffic Safety Platinum Award, the highest award given to a community for all our traffic safety initiatives.

In December, Ptl. Arch Kimbrew was recognized as the 2017 Police Employee of the Year for the tremendous job that he does for the police department.

Until next month – Proud to Serve...Sworn to Protect

Yours in Service,

Gregg Minichello
