Gates Mills Police Department

Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect

From Your Police Department:

With the warmer weather upon us, we can expect to see an increase in bicyclists riding through our beautiful scenic village.

Please remember that in March, 2017, Ohio legislators passed House Bill 154, which requires motorists to pass bicyclists on the road with no less than a 3-foot distance. Ohio is now the 40th state to enact such a law. We encourage that as you are attempting to pass a bicyclist or a group of bicyclists be patient especially when you are approaching a curve or a hill on the roadway. Please remember that bicyclists do have a right to the roadway and exercise caution while passing.

On Saturday, June 9 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., at the Gates Mills Elementary School lower parking lot the police department will be presenting a “Bike Rodeo” for Village children, ages 5-12. Ptl. Eric Kimball and Ptl. Arch Kimbrew will be discussing bicycle safety with the children. We will also have various riding stations set up so the kids can ride around! I ask you to RSVP to Ptl. Kimball at ekimball@gatesmillsvillage.com by June 1st. So please plan on participating in this fun event. Sara’s Place will be providing refreshments!

A friendly reminder that Safety Town registration is now open. Registration can only be done online at www.gilmour.org/summercamp. Space is limited and the event fills up quickly. Please contact Ptl. Charlene Strasshofer for information at cstrasshofer@gatesmillsvillage.com.

We have begun using our portable speed awareness radar sign that we move around to various locations to assist us in our ongoing challenge to control speeding violators in our village. The radar sign continues to be an effective resource for us. Please contact Ptl. Arch Kimbrew or Ptl. Dylan Hustosky at the town hall 423-4405 or via their email addresses, which can be accessed through our web page, if you would like request placement of the unit on your street.

Until next month – Proud to serve…Sworn to Protect
