From Your Police Department:

On behalf of the men and women of the Police Department, I would like to thank all those who contributed to the Village Employee Christmas Fund.  I would also like to thank everyone who kept the Town Hall supplied with delicious holiday food items. Your thoughtful expressions of support for the Police Department are greatly appreciated.  Below are some highlights from 2018:

This past year we handled 6,642 calls for service, 55 % of the calls for service on day shift and 45 % of the calls on night shift. We had 125 investigatory police reports filed and 90 motor vehicle accidents, which were down by 10% from last year.

In 2018, we expanded community outreach programs for our residents and hosted a Bicycle Rodeo for kids. The rodeo was a day of bicycle safety information, a bicycle inspection and an agility course. 25 children and family members attended the event and we plan on having another in 2019. 

In March, we began discussions with the Mayfield City School District to explore the possibility having a school resource officer (SRO) in the public schools located in the village.  After several months of negotiation and discussion, we agreed to partner with the school district in this essential program.  Beginning October 1, 2018, Ptl. Arch Kimbrew has been assigned to the schools for security, school programs, and most importantly, building a positive relationship with the students, their families, and the staff. 

In July, we had another successful partnership with the Fire Department and Gilmour Academy to hold our 5th annual Safety Town program for preschoolers.  Approximately 50, four and five-year-old children attended the week-long session and were instructed in all areas of safety.  Our sixth Safety Town is scheduled for this July.

In November, we were once again awarded the American Automobile Association’s Traffic Safety Platinum Award, the highest award given to a community to recognize our traffic safety initiatives. Our R/x prescription drug box outside the Village Hall door, has been very well received by our residents.  The box allows residents a friendly and safe way to dispose of unwanted medications.

I am very pleased to announce that Ptl. Dylan Hustosky has returned to work with no restrictions following a five-month absence from his road patrol duties.  Dylan has worked extremely hard to get back and we are all extremely proud of him.  Congratulations to Dylan!  I would also be remiss if I did not say thank you to all our police officers who covered Dylan’s shifts during his absence.  We are very lucky to have such a dedicated and loyal group of professional police officers.

At the January Council Meeting, Detective Michael Day was promoted to Sergeant.  Sgt. Day will continue to serve as our lead detective and work the road to help cover supervisory patrol gaps.  Congratulations to Sgt. Day on his well-deserved promotion!
