From Your Police Department:
I hope everyone is staying safe during these challenging times. We have all had to adjust our lifestyles to limit exposure and we hope the Covid-19 pandemic will pass soon. I again want to thank residents who delivered masks for our officers.
As you know the Town Hall is not staffed 24 hours a day. As a result, we wanted to create a “Safe Zone” so our residents and the public would have a secure place to go in the event someone is in fear for their immediate safety. A lock has been installed on the inside of the front door to the Town Hall (which is accessible at all hours). This will allow anyone in fear to lock themselves inside the vestibule. There is a phone located on the wall with direct access to police and the vestibule is always monitored by camera at police dispatch.
The 2020-2021 Deer Management/Culling season in the village will run from September 26th-February 7th. A few years ago, Village Council unanimously approved an acreage reduction to cull deer (bow only) from 10 to 5 acres. This change enabled more property owners to participate in the program while still ensuring safety for residents and hunters. Typically, in a given year we average about 40 deer that are removed from properties by Bow Hunting. Sgt. Michael Pollutro, who is an avid hunter himself, oversees the program and issues all the required permits. Sgt. Pollutro will begin processing applications in mid-September. The turnaround time can be up to one week because the process is tedious. Applications can be found online on our webpage by or calling the town hall. Any specific questions regarding the culling program, please contact Sgt. Michael Pollutro at mpollutro@gatesmillsvillage.com or 440.423.4405 x 155.
We have had calls reporting individuals operating ATVs and Dirt bikes on village streets. I would like to remind you that these types of vehicles are prohibited on all village roadways. Vehicles of this type are not street legal and must be used on private property only. We appreciate your compliance and our goal is not to issue citations for these types of violations.
As always, please contact me if you need anything.
Until next month – Proud to serve…Sworn to Protect
