Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect
From Your Police Department:
A full year has passed since Gates Mills moved its dispatch operations to Chagrin Valley Dispatch (CVD). To date, CVD has been awarded over 2.1 million dollars in grant funds. These funds have underwritten the purchase of state of the art technology, which has ultimately benefited the residents of Gates Mills. As was projected, CVD continues to add new partners…new partners equates to additional cost savings for the Village. Of equal importance, the staff at CVD remains steadfast in their commitment to provide Gates Mills residents with a high level of professional services. I am pleased to report that CVD is effectively and efficiently meeting the Village’s dispatching needs. I am confident the CVD partnership will continue to provide Gates Mills residents with quality dispatch services well into the future.
Due to limited sidewalks within the Village, walkers and joggers are often relegated to sharing the roadways with motor vehicle traffic. In an effort to promote a safe flow of traffic, please take note of the following pedestrian obligations:
Gates Mills Codified Ordinance 316.05: Walking on Sidewalks and Streets
- Where a sidewalk is provided and its use practicable, it shall be unlawful for any pedestrian to walk along and upon an adjacent roadway.
- Where a sidewalk is not available, any pedestrian walking along and upon a highway shall walk only on a shoulder, as far as practicable from the edge of the roadway.
- Where neither a sidewalk nor a shoulder is available, any pedestrian walking along and upon a highway shall walk as near as practicable to an outside edge of the roadway, and, if on a two-way roadway, shall walk only on the left side of the roadway.
- Except as otherwise provided in Ohio R.C. 4511.13 and 4511.46, or any substantially similar municipal ordinances, any pedestrian upon a roadway shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway.
On a closing note, Gates Mills Police will be participating in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. This event is a means of disposing of prescription drugs in a safe, responsible and convenient manner. On September 27th, between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm, simply bring your unwanted or expired prescription drugs to the Town Hall. Detective Michael Day will be on hand to receive and safely dispose of your items.
Until next month – Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect
