KIDDE RECALLS FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Fire Department
Message from Fire Chief, P. Thomas Robinson
On behalf of the members of the Gates Mills Fire Department I would like to welcome you to our website. The Gates Mills Fire Department was established in 1927 when council passed an ordinance “To provide for establishment and organization of a Village Fire Department”. The first Village fire engine was a 1917 Chevrolet purchased in 1927 from the American LaFrance Company for approximately $850 and was housed in the first station located on the corner of Epping Road and Main Street.
The department operates as a “paid-on call” service where members are contacted by radio pagers and respond to emergencies from home or other locations. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are provided through a contract with Mayfield Village Fire Department which staffs ambulances 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
The Fire Department currently operates out of one station located behind Village Hall and proudly protects approximately 2400 residents living in an area of 8.8 square miles consisting of mainly single-family residential dwelling. Also, throughout the Village are various commercial and institutional facilities requiring yearly fire safety inspections.
Currently, the department consists of 25 men and women providing fire protection, hazardous materials, search and rescue, and vehicle extrication services. Various members of the department also serve on a variety of specialized regional teams that include the Fire Investigation Task Force and Hillcrest Area Technical Rescue Team.
Presently, the Fire Department has reciprocal agreements with the surrounding communities to provide additional personnel and equipment in the event of a large scale incident.
Please enjoy the website, information on many different services provided by the fire department can be found simply by navigating through this site. Feel free to contact me with any website suggestions you might have.
If we can be of any assistance, please contact me.
Sincerely,
P. Thomas Robinson, Fire Chief
