From Your Police Department:
As the summer is winding down and children are heading back to school, I want to remind everyone to closely monitor your speed when driving through our school zones. The beginning of the school year is the time when children are at an increased risk for pedestrian, and motor vehicle related accidents. Thank you for your help in keeping the Village roadways safe.
As you may have read in the local newspapers, Gates Mills, Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village, and Highland Heights have partnered with the Mayfield City School District to place a full-time School Resource Officer (SRO) in each community where a school is located. Ptl. Arch Kimbrew has been selected to fulfill this important role for us at Gates Mills Elementary School. Additionally, Ptl. Kimbrew will make frequent visits throughout the day to the Gates Mills Environmental Center on County Line Road which is also part of the Mayfield City School District. We anticipate Ptl. Kimbrew beginning full-time in the schools soon.
Ptl. Kimbrew’s responsibilities will include, building security, safety planning, some educational programs, fostering relationships with students, parents, and staff, etc. We believe there is a great benefit to both the village and the schools. During the summer months, Ptl. Kimbrew will provide additional manpower and help us cover shifts of vacation time when we typically are the busiest. Ptl. Kimbrew will be attending School Resource Officer (SRO) training in the future in Columbus, Ohio. Ptl. Kimbrew will do a great job for Gates Mills and the Mayfield Schools and we are very excited about the partnership! Congratulations on Ptl. Kimbrew’s achievement.
Ptl. Dylan Hustosky, our friend and fellow officer, was involved in tragic family incident while off duty at his home. As a result, he will be off work indefinitely while he is recovering. Dylan is a 4-year veteran of the police department who does an outstanding job. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery.
Until next month – Proud to serve…Sworn to Protect
