Gates Mills Police Department

Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect

From Your Police Department:

Welcome to Fall!  I hope you had an enjoyable summer. Throughout the year we always receive inquiries from residents regarding certain ordinances.  Below are some answers to frequently asked questions.

Dogs Running at Large/Barking Dogs: It is against the law for you to allow your dogs to run loose on public property, or on another’s property without their permission.  Although there is no leash law, your dog must be under your control when it is off your property.  It is also against the law to allow your dog to continually bark or howl in such a manner that it disturbs the peace and tranquility of the neighborhood.

Roadside Parking: Roadside parking is prohibited throughout the Village except where posted, such as in the business district or on Old Mill Road near the Hunt Club.  An exception is that a resident may park in front of his own property and may allow others to do so, for special events, as long as it does not create a hazard to others using the roadway.  We encourage you to notify us in advance of these occasions.  During the winter season, we urge special care for on-street parking so that you do not impede the plowing of roadways.

Noise or Loud Music: Loud music or other noises that disturb your neighbors are prohibited, with the exception of necessary noises (lawn mowers, chain saws, hammering, etc.) during hours when such disturbance would be minimal.   We would ask that you please be considerate of your neighbors and exercise common courtesy.

Trespassing: It is important that you ascertain that property you plan on entering is public property open to the public, rather than restricted public property or private property.  Trespassers are subject to citation and/or arrest.

Traffic Offenses: In order to promote safety for our residents, particularly our children, we strongly encourage voluntary compliance with our traffic code, especially speeding, stop sign and school bus regulation.

Until next month – Proud to serve…Sworn to Protect
