Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect
From Your Police Department:
For those who drive regularly on Gates Mills Boulevard, you may have noticed the new one lane signs that were installed in each direction. For those who are unaware, Gates Mills Boulevard is and has always been one lane. We felt it was necessary for public awareness and to improve traffic safety to install the signs in order to avoid confusion, as many drivers believe that Gates Mills Boulevard is two lanes. Gates Mills Boulevard is not wide enough (particularly the lower half), and there are no pavement markings dividing it, making it one lane of travel. In short, nothing has changed, just new signs for clarification purposes.
With the Fourth of July quickly approaching, here’s what you need to know about fireworks. The general public may purchase consumer fireworks from a licensed wholesaler or manufacturer, but those fireworks cannot be discharged anywhere in the State of Ohio. Ohio’s fireworks laws are written to protect people and promote safety. Failing to comply with these laws can result in devastating fires and catastrophic personal injuries. Enjoy your Fourth of July celebration, but leave the fireworks displays to the licensed professionals.
Because of the tremendous success of the School Resource Officer Program, we have extended our contract with the Mayfield City School District to keep an officer inside Gates Mills Elementary School. The officer also makes frequent visits throughout the school day to the Gates Mills Environmental Education Center on County Line Road. SRO Arch Kimbrew will return for his second year in that role for the police department. When school is not in session or on extended break, Arch provides necessary patrol support to assist us in maintaining full shift coverage.
Please join me in welcoming Part Time Police Officer Matthew Dunn who has been added to our staff. Matt is a Police Sergeant with the City of Shaker Heights and will be a great addition to the department as well as the village.
As always, please contact me if I may be of assistance.
Have a great summer!!
