From Your Police Department:
As the summer is winding down and children are heading back to school, I want to remind everyone to closely monitor your speed when driving through our school zones. The beginning of the school year is the time when children are at an increased risk for pedestrian, and motor vehicle related accidents. Thank you for your help in keeping the Village roadways safe.
The 2019-2020 Deer Culling season will run from September 28th-February 2nd. Last year Village Council approved and passed an acreage reduction to cull deer (bow only) from 10 to 5 acres. This change was to allow for more property owners to participate in the program while still ensuring safety for residents and hunters. Sgt. Michael Pollutro, who is an avid hunter himself, oversees the program and issues all the required permits. We receive phone calls each year from residents who meet the acreage requirement, but do not know of any hunters. Often, we field calls from hunters who are looking for properties to hunt so contact us if you need assistance. Sgt. Pollutro will begin processing applications in mid-September and the turnaround time can take up to one week because the process is tedious. Applications can be found online on our webpage, by picking up in person or calling the town hall. Any specific questions regarding the culling program, please contact Sgt. Michael Pollutro at mpollutro@gatesmillsvillage.com or 440.423.4405 x 155.
Please join me in welcoming Ptl. Jessica Newsome who has been appointed to fill remaining open position on the schedule. Jessica has previous patrol experience in Middlefield and Mayfield Village and began her field training with the department on August 11th. She is very excited to get started and will be a great addition to the Village!
I would like to congratulate Ptl. Arch Kimbrew on his 20-year anniversary as a Gates Mills police officer! Arch is a tremendous asset to the Village and is currently serving as our School Resource Officer (SRO). He assists the patrol division when school is not in session ensuring we have patrol officers to cover vacation and holiday time off requests.
Until next month – Proud to serve…Sworn to Protect
