Gates Mills Police Department
Proud to Serve…Sworn to Protect
With retirement from the Gates Mills Police Department quickly approaching, this will be my final contribution to the Pink Sheet. It has been both an honor and privilege to serve the residents of Gates Mills during the past thirty-one years. I will be taking with me many wonderful memories of this unique community and the individuals who make it special.
I would like to acknowledge several special people; each of them has been a source of trusted wisdom during my years of service in Gates Mills: my parents- Ken and Jeanne Whitmer, my daughter- Dannielle Towey, and my uncle- Bruce Motter. Most importantly, I’d like to thank my wife, Gale, who has walked by my side during each step of this three decade journey… I couldn’t have made the journey without her.
The next era of Gates Mills policing will fall under the leadership of Gregg Minichello. Gregg’s record is one of integrity, professionalism and reverence for the law. I’m confident that Gregg will lead the dedicated men and women of the Gates Mills Police Department into another successful era of public service.
As I bid farewell, I’ll leave you with the words of this timeless Irish verse:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Yours in Service,
Ronald L. Whitmer
