With retirement from the Gates Mills Police Department quickly approaching, this will be my final contribution to the Pink Sheet. It has been both an honor and privilege to serve the residents of Gates Mills during the past thirty-one years. I will be taking with me many wonderful memories of this unique community and the individuals who make it special.

Last month, your Police and Fire Departments partnered with Gilmour Academy to provide Safety Town classes for two energetic groups of four and five year olds. The week long curriculum incorporated hands-on activities addressing traffic safety, stranger safety and fire safety. The program was a great success due to the efforts of Officers Suchetka and Strasshofer, Lieutenant Minichello, Fire Chief Robinson, Gates Mills Service Department and the staff at Gilmour Academy. At the end of June, after twenty-eight years of service to the residents of Gates Mills, Officer Dale Whitmer will retire from the Gates Mills Police Department. Dale began his Village service in 1986 when he was hired by Police Chief George Hughes. During the ensuing decades, Dale has diligently patrolled the Village during snowstorms, floods and power-outages. In the course of twenty-eight years, Dale has logged over three-hundred thousand patrol miles on Village roadways.

Gates Mills is home to many unique and desirable rental properties. Although rental property owners and tenants are not required to register with the Village, occupancy contact information can be very helpful for police and fire personnel during emergency situations. To that end, rental property owners and tenants are encouraged to provide their emergency contact information by going to the Village website, www.gatesmillsvillage.com, where they can complete a secure/encrypted Rental Property Information form.
