News Article - Telephone Scam / Deputy Impersonation

ATTENTION GATES MILLS RESIDENTS:  Please read the media release below, issued by Franklin County Sheriff Zack Scott, regarding "Telephone Scam / Deputy Impersonation"  incidents reported in the Columbus area.  Unfortunately, these fraudulent calls have already been received by several Gates Mills residents this past week.  Contact the Gates Mills Police Department immediately at 440-423-4456 if you're unsure of the legitimacy of any phone calls, or if you've responded to what you believe may have been a scam.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is scheduled for April 26th.  Since 2010, this nationwide initiative has collected 3.4 million pounds (1,733 tons) of unneeded medications, helping to prevent the diversion, misuse and abuse of these drugs.  This event provides a means of disposing of prescription drugs in a safe, convenient and responsible manner. Once again, Gates Mills Police will be participating in the event.

National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) is scheduled for March 2-8. NCPW is a coordinated campaign that encourages consumers to take advantage of their consumer rights and make better informed decisions.

NCPW.gov offers consumers a myriad of helpful information from federal and state government and non-profit partner organizations. The website provides safety tips in the areas of banking, health, safety, home, automobile, technology, identity theft, investing and shopping. The NCPW webpage is worth a look.
